Description

Following my Future Thinking report, I knew it was essential that I developed my CAD skills, as this was a limiting factor of the report, as the cohesiveness was weakened. Therefore, I had practiced different InDesign and Photoshop techniques prior to the final design, to be able to incorporate new aspects and layouts that were missing in my Future Thinking. I also had made sure to have multiple meetings with the CAD team at NTU and watched various tutorials to develop new skills. This helped me to understand the platforms more, and was reflected in my feedback, as it was stated that my skills had definitely improved from my future thinking report.

Feelings

I was initially feeling apprehensive about my CAD skills, as I knew I needed to significantly improve my skills if I was to be successful in my Stage 1. Whilst I had taken the right steps to improve, it was a continuing worry for me, as I am used to comparing my work with my peers, which knocked my confidence. However, I reassured myself that all work is different and that I should not compare myself to others, as this would only reiterate the negative feelings. Moreover, whilst I found the experience challenging and felt disgruntled at times, I did not give up and continued to develop my skills, which made me feel more confident of my abilities.

Evaluation

The constructive aspect of my CAD work was that from my hard work, my skills had significantly improved, and made me feel more capable on the platforms. The work I had produced was cohesive and followed a neat format which allowed easy reading. I had also developed my infographic skills and made diagrams of theory which made it effortless for the reader to understand.

To improve my work for Stage 2, I need to continue to develop my CAD skills. Whilst there was significant improvement in comparison from Future Thinking and Stage 1, my work needs to be more visually interesting in order to captivate the reader and visualise my research.

Analysis

What I gained from this situation was confidence in that I could learn new skills on CAD independently. It has encouraged me to further develop my skills in all platforms, and further push myself to incorporate more challenging skills.

Conclusion

Whilst the experience was a challenging aspect for me, I feel that it was necessary for me to improve on these skills, and therefore I am taking a positive aspect on reflection. I understand that this is just a start and that my CAD skills still require significant improvement, however I am proud of what I have accomplished in a short space of time.

Action Plan

In the future, I will continue to practice my CAD skills ensuring to speak to the CAD team if I need further assistance. I will also look for inspiration on different platforms such as Pinterest which will help me with layouts and colour schemes.
